RE: Is this legit?!?!
Thats absolutely insane....I am in the same boat as you, I don't know a whole lot about cars yet but I am getting ready to do an oil change myself for the first time. I just bought filter + drain plug + filter removal tool + air filter on ecstuning.com for 35 shipped. I will be getting spark plugs as well from there, NGK for around ~40 and a fuel filter in a few weeks ~15. Oil is about 22-30 at Walmart for Mobil 1 or Castrol Syntec. So for parts total you are looking at around 120. I am expecting a few hours worth of work since I don't have much experience, but that is worth close to 300 bucks for me. Spend your money on gas or upgrades But to pay someone to do it I would think around 250 would be a much more reasonable price.

RE: Is this legit?!?!
the fluids/filters and plugs will cost about 100$
you can do this all yourself, although the fuel filter is a pain in the ***
this is what i would do
check all your fluids, and if any of them are low, top them off (ONLY use OEM fluids)
oil-40$ (full synthetic)
filter-10$
Plugs-12$
air filter-15$
so, the list above will cost ya 77$ and it will take a beginner who has never worked on a car about 1 hour....

RE: Is this legit?!?!
plugs cost me 2$ a piece
NGK BKR7E gapped at .28 beacuse I am chipped
If you aren't chipped you should run a BKR6E gapped at .32
I have a 1.8t, so I do not know which NGK plugs the 2.8l use, but I am assuming that NGK offers a two dollar plug for the 2.8's as well
if you need six plugs, and they each cost $2 dollars a piece, then you will be spending 12$ before tax on a set of plugs
about $13 dollars after tax....sorry

RE: Is this legit?!?!
Well the lower brands are $8-15. $35+ for top of the line plugs. I know the guy at the local oil place so I bring my synthetic and all the goodies I need and he only charges me 10 bucks so I usually take a couple of the guys lunch also. If you do it yourself its still a piece of cake. Just remember the filter gasket stays on the old filter. That happened to me the first time [&o]
