Leaks and turns off

Leaks and turns off
Good Night People,
I am posting it because I am scared.
I have just bought an Audi A4 1.8T 1999.
The car drives, and looks great. But I found some problems throughout the last week, and I would you like to ask your opinion, experts.
Problems:
1) When I am driving around 45MPH, and simply stop the car without hiting the breakes, the car suddenly shuts off. It does not happen if I hit the gas before stoping. It seems that the car looses RPM when I am not hiting the gas before stoping. Notice, if I am driving slowly, nothing happens. This problem just occurs when I do not use the brake before stopping? What would it be? I thought that it would be something related to the fuel filter or something like that. It seems that the car looses power and RPM. It happened to me just like 2 times the whole last week, but I am scared.
2) I found out that there are some oil leaks in the car and the turbo. Is that a big deal?
Thanks for the comprehension.
Daniel

RE: Leaks and turns off
watch those leaks man check exactly where they are coming from specially the one from the turbo.
and wheere is your other leak coming from, trans fluid, break fluid, engine oil?????????
hopefully if its from your engine oil its a simple oil pan problem!! easy to get done
and actually your shut off problem could have somthing to do with a the turbo leak, is the idle rough, and how does your turbo respond to accelaration?

RE: Leaks and turns off
The turbo responds to the acelleration good I think. I am not a car expert, I could not even say when the turbo is working or not. I guess that the other leak is comming from the engine though.
So the leak in the turbo is bad? How can I get it done? Is that expensive to fix?
Thanks

RE: Leaks and turns off
Sounds like it may be the mass airflow sensor. Take it to autozone and asked them to check the codes on the car they should do it for free. Then ppost your codes on here so we can figure them out. As far as the oil in the turbo is there alot or was it when you took out the intake pipe at the throttle body. In that case it may be a bad pcv valve.

RE: Leaks and turns off
The stalling problem could be a dirty throttle body. How many miles? I bet it hasn't been cleaned. I cleaned mine because I had rough idol problems and the car seemed like it wanted to die but after cleaning it all those problems went away.
As for the oil leak... find out were its coming from. Depending on where it's coming from will depend on how serious it is.

RE: Leaks and turns off
To check your turbo, take off your intake pipe to the compressor wheel and see if oil drips out of the hose or not. If you have oil in there, it could be several things. It could be an oil leak on the feed/return lines or a turbo seal is leaking.
Check the in/out and side/side shaft play of your turbo. You do this when you have the intake pipe off. If it moves a little bit, that is okay. If it moves alot then you will need a new turbocharger. Also, check your oil and see if it has any milky substances in. This will indicate a blown head gasket [BHG].
Take a piece of cardboard when the car is running and set it under the engine and look at where the oil drops onto the piece of cardboard. that way you can usually roll under the car and literally trace the path because gravity will typically drip the oil right underneath where it is leaking. Also try this with the engine cooling down. i.e. let the engine warm up with the cardboard and then park it and let it cool down with the engine off with the cardboard under it and repeat those steps. Your leaks might be more apparent with a Seafoam treatment. Be careful though... Seafoam has a tendancy for making your leaks worse because it cleans everything and will remove the gunk around the leak. It should be easier to locate the leaks. Also, check the leaks for any color to them.
As far as your idle issue. Definitely get it checked at Autozone for free. Then come back with the codes that are run. It could be: fuel filter, injector clogged, an issue with your ecu, mass air flow sensor, o2 sensor. All of those are not too expensive, but it will be a pain in the butt to replace all of them. Also look at running a Seafoam treatment in your fuel system. Its something like $5-6/treatment. Its worth it. Hope that helps!
