Default LCD Display change out

Like most B5 Audi owners, I have the crappy LCD display with dead pixels. I saw on Ebay a company that was selling just the LCD that you could replace yourself. Has anyone else tried this and were you successful? Here is the link to the Ebay store.

Ive never seen anyone actually fix it. There are writeups though. Most all of us just live with the dead screen

There are lots of people who have actually fixed their screens or had them repaired. If you search for the LCD issue I posted up a link a few weeks back that had step by step directions on how to repair it. You MUST be VERY good at soldering tho or you risk the chance of completely tanking your entire Cluster.

There are places that charge $150 - $200 to repair them. All you need to do is take out the cluster and ship it to them and they repair it.

Look thru the posts for the past couple or weeks or search and you will find a similar post that you put up. If I have time I'll try to find it again for you.

Yes, alot of the post I was reading was talking about taking the cluster out and sending it to module master. That will probably be the route I go. I really didn't see any on people replacing their lcd. I will do a surch for it again.

^ Thanks for the DIY link! I'll give this a shot soon, and if I cant do it I go to an engineering school and know a bunch of Electrical Engineers that are wizards with soldering irons.

I replaced the climate control LCD, using a kit from Module Master. Pretty easy and good instructions. I'm sure an instrument cluster kit would be of similar quality and come with good instructions.

If I'm not mistaken the Climate Control LCD is just a plug and play replacement correct?

With the Cluster LCD you need to actually take it apart and solder the ribbon connector in place, that is what makes it much more difficult.
