kkk turbo?
so i have a 98 a4 1.8t .. i went to my local salvage yard just to look at there inventory of turbos.. so i went to there audi/vw section lookin for a good k04 .. they didnt have one but they have 2 k03's and this one turbo that caught my eye.. its stamped kkk and has a t3 flange square 4 bolt exaust side. its water and oil cooled and has no shaft play at all and turbine spins freely . looks a little bigger than a k04 .. the guy says its from an older audi but doesnt know. it has no internal wastegate so it was externaly gated .. he only wants $100 for it. i know theres no specs to go by but do you think it would be a good one to use? any help would be greatly apreciated

Edit further search makes it almost seem like the current turbo's may somehow be related to those ones.

Did the flange have a round inlet in the center?

other than a different turbo mani and a custom test pipe theres not much to do right? i mean the tuning and fuel.. but for about 240-260 whp do you think this would be good or just go with the k04?

no it was a little bit smaller oval and the flange was completly rectangle

Might have been a K16 which looks about the same size as a T28, the picture above is a K26.

so would it be a good turbo to run for daily use and decent power

No, there is no manifold, dp, or tuning for it. It would cost just as much to run that turbo for $100 as it would to run a real turbo kit.

If it was on an earlier Audi, and was externally gated, it sounds like it came off a 5 cyl, and looked like it's the one in the pic above. So I'll bet it's a K-26, which is an OK turbo on a (much larger displacement than 1.8L) Porsche. We would usually take a K-26 and put a K27 compressor section on it in 944's and 911's. Then they could make some good power. In either case, this is not what you are looking for, move along.
Mike, I believe the K16 is internally gated. They are on all 993tt's at least.
