Key question PLEASE HELP

Umm in not a hundred percent sure if that would work..
the keys for 2000 and up have to be programmed to an imobilizer and your car does have an imobilizer, its too old... i mean its kind of like using the a/c control unit in a 2001 in your car it wouldnt work because they are different and the coding on them are different so for example the defrosters wont work.. so on...
it would just be cheaper and easier to get that regular master key for your car for $30

alright guys i have a new idea lol. i found a 2001 a4 on craigslist being parted out.. could i use that key/ignition/door lock and use it in my car? i know its a lot of work but the guy said he'd take like 60 bucks for everything. but its a 1.8 quattro... shouldnt make a difference right? everyone around here (tampa) wants 120 and up to make a key and im done with it all. i was about 2 secs away from just jabing a screw driver in the ignition and haveing a whole tool box full of keys
