Default K04 tune on a K03 (Speed Tuning)

Is there anything wrong with running a K04 tuning on stock 1.8t with a K03? I spoke with speedtuning at they suggested the K04 tune so if I ever upgrade my turbo, the tune would match.

Sounds like a bad idea to me...

Run a tune suitable for turbo in place. I had ST and liked it ok but if you plan on upgrading the turbo down the line you should go with APR, GIAC, or Unitronic ect. I'm pretty certain they allow to upgrade your tune when you install new hardware.

I'm going with SpeedTuning because I participated in a group buy last year and I just finally got around to shipping it in. I contacted Oliver (SpeedTuning) about my concern today and he said that it should not be a problem and that it will be just fine.

I just don't want problems. I'm a Pharmacy student and am about to transfer to a university next year. We all know that isn't cheap.

Sorry but if you don't want issues run the proper tune for your turbo.

If Oliver has all the answers why bother with the thread?

To get more input on the subject. Could you describe what would be some of the problems that would occur?

Hey there-

I actually just got the K04 tune from Speedtuning one week ago on my 2001 A4 TQM 1.8 (stock K03) and so far (albeit early) is running fantastic. I had the Stage 2 Speedtuning for 4-5 years previous, and although the K04 seems to be pushing more boost, it's not that much more. Right now, I'm spiking at 20 in the proper gear rpm range, the typical hold depending on the gear/rpm is 15-19....

My setup is stock clutch (however have replacement in hand), 2.5" XS Power Exhust, Eurocode Test Pipe, new oem N75, and 710N Diverter valve. I'm loving the change, and from the Stage 2 tune, it's a world of different IMO!!!! I received a hell of a deal since I'm a returning customer as well.....

If I were to guess HP and Torque changes.....it would be approximately 30-40HP and 30-40 Ft. Lbs....but again just a guess. Night and day people.....seriously....BTW I'm running 91 Octane fuel as well.....

Good Luck!

Dude, who made you boss? This forum doesn't need you to say what is dead and what isn't, it's common sense. I "added" information to this thread, so what's you point again? You pretty much contradicted your own point. If you look around this or any other forum, there isn't very much information (detailed) about the Speedtuning K04 program on the B5 1.8.....so you can be the forum police or comment useless remarks all you want, but the more information the better, kapeache? Not only that, but I was also responding to the "bad idea" commented towards upgrading to the K04 software on the K03 turbo. I'm boosting relatively the same thing on the K04 program vs the K03, maybe 2-3 PSI difference in certain gears, but 20 psi at most depending on gear and rpm band (in itself) isn't going to kill a K03, there's plenty of people that have done it, and still are doing it (some are boosting more than 20 on their stock K03). I was holding 16psi (18psi in certain gears/rpm bands) with my Speedtuning Stage 2 for 5 years, yet my turbo hasn't had one issue. So to say 2 more psi is going to be a world of difference and toast the K03 is ridiculous. Even with the K04 software, the boost can hold from anwhere between 15-20psi, but it's not pushing 20 ALL THE TIME.

Call me a newbie all you want, I'm sorry if my life doesn't revolve around online forums. Just to prove my point with the lack of information for this setup.....I googled K04 Speedtuning (as well as searched it here) and this thread popped up, so apparently it isn't dead for anyone looking at upgrading to a K04 Speedtuning chip, or for anyone looking to add more valuable info.

My "good luck" gesture was directed at anyone looking into the same software. IF you have nothing to contribute, don't contribute at all, you're simply wasting everyones time......
