Default K04 question

Ok so here is my situation I currently have a 99.5 A4 1.8TQ tip and I have APR 91 chip installed and I am looking a buying a K04 and Borla exhaust. I called a company close to my house (Im just north of Toronto) to ask them if I have to re-tune my car once I put the K04 on and he is telling me that APR said I don't have to? So basically my understanding is that once I bolt up my k04 my ecu will just adapt to it and I will gain more power or how does that work exactly?

Thanks,

Tyson

You won't gain a lot of power. You can tune it to gain a little more. A K04 is only slightly better than a K03. It is not worth upgrading from K03 to K04 unless your K03 is trashed and you don't want to spend a lot on new manifolds and such for a good turbo (or for the Elim kit).

yea my k03 has major shaft play and it keeps burning all my oil so I have to replace it might as well upgrade. But if i get the k04 i can just bolt it up and go nothing is going to happen

You can. You might gain a little power over the K03 without a tune, but probably not enough to be noticeable at all. But it's more worth it than buying a replacement K03, at least.

ok thats what im confused about, because the shop told me that I can't tune my car for a k04, apparently he called APR and they said if a k04 is put on and the car is already chipped you can't tune it. Is he just feeding me bs then? Because I want to gain more power as well, I think the Borla exhaust should help too

Yes you can run the K04 as a direct replacement. I had one laying around and threw it on my B5 and no ill-symptoms. Never noticed a big difference either and never got it reflashed either.

GIAC does have a tune for the k04 though. Sucks that APR doesn't offer one.

ok but my major question is can I get it re-flashed so I do notice more a of a difference? Apparently the shop I called says I cant and to just run it as is.

Ya you will see a small gain like others have said, it just won't be as much as if it was flashed with a k04 program. Still a good route to go if you have to replace your turbo anyway. Hope that answered your questions.
