Just totaled my 2.8, looking for advice
New to the forum. I just bought a 1999.5 Audi 2.8 qm about 3 weeks ago and it got totaled yesterday by some guy running a red light. But anyways, I am definately looking at getting another audi but this time probably a 1.8t. I know 1.8t's are easier to mod but my question is how does a chipped 1.8t stack up to a 2.8 in terms of speed(0-60) and torque? Also, how much hp can i expect to gain from a chip and either an exhaust/intake? All help is appreciated and I cant wait to get back on the road.

There's a Newbie Guide at the top of the forum...it'll give you a good idea of what kind of gains you can expect for a given mod. Sorry that you lost your car...that's rough. I think it's worth mentioning though that the 2.8 is made a heck of a lot more fun with a chip...I went with SpeedTuning because of the price and it's been great. You're right that the 1.8T will be much more mod-friendly, but remember that you're starting with 20 or 40 hp less (depending on the year of the car) than in the 2.8 30v. I think a chipped 1.8T and a stock 2.8 would be pretty evenly matched. I drove a stock 2001 1.8T and it was disgustingly slow compared to my Avant.
