Default Jeez -- the fuel pump is buried in the gas tank

I replaced the fuel pump tonight. Man, that thing is buried inside the tank. The DIY's I've seen didn't show that. Felt like a livestock veterinarian with half my arm inside there.

For anyone doing it in the future, getting the new pump lined up in the basket is not fun. Line up the tabs on the pump with the tabs on the basket but minus about a half inch counter-clockwise, then turn clockwise to lock, if that makes sense.

Post install, I'm getting better throttle response and the correct exhaust note. At 160k miles, my original 1998 pump was definitely on the verge of being done.

Hahaha, i did also.
And if you do a upgraded pump just buy the drop in, its a beyotch to retrofit.

Oh and remember to put the fuse back in before you have a mental breakdown!

Yes fuel filter, MAF, and EVAP purge valve. After driving 550 miles today the p1136 p1138 and p0445 codes are cleared and I'm getting better mileage.

I was amazed that even though my my new pump flows over 3x more than stock, how it was so much smaller than stock!
