Default Issues with P1196 Error code.

Before i explain my issue i just want to say i'm pretty new to cars so excuse my crappy lingo and general lack of knowledge.

My car is a 1999.5 Audi a4 and im getting the P1196 error code. I'm under the impression that code means Bank 1 Sensor 1, i've replaced the sensor before the turbo (upstream?) and the error code is still there. I was wondering how many pre cat sensor there are? I see 2 sensors, one before the turbo, and one after( i believe this is bank 1 sensor 2?). Should I replace both of them since the upstream sensor did not solve the issue or should I go look elsewhere for the problem? i've heard it could be a fried ECU, a short, a blown fuse, a bad coolant thermometer can throw o2 senor codes. any advice before i start throwing money at this thing?

Thank you

to many question! lol don't make this sound harder than it looks.

you should have 1 upstream 1 down stream before and after the turbo.

p1196 O2 Sensor Heater Circ.,Bank1-Sensor-1 Electrical Malfunction, this code is for the heater on sensor # 1 (before the cat) aka upstream.

try testing the sensor first, Set the multimeter to read resistance (ohms) and measure between pins 1 and 2. reading below 20 ohms indicates that the sensor heater is okay. However, a reading of 20 ohms or more (usually a lot more) indicates that the sensor is defective and needs to be replaced.

start there try that first do this on both sensor just to make sure but p1196 is referring to sensor 1 before the cat do this see the results and then start to buy stuff. dont just go all crazy buying things lol i know santa is coming but even he cant handle that much spending

ps. its not "Before the turbo" you mean "before the cat"

I've tried testing the resistance in the o2 sensors and everything looks good. Not really sure where to go from here
