Default interchangeable??

Can someone tell me if a 2000 a4 1.8t door and hood fit on my 1999 a4 2.8? My spinning lock has been a pain in the **** tryting to get the part I need...so for the price of a new/used door w/lock and all is cheaper than buying separate pieces. TY in advance.

I don't know of mechanical differences, but you will have the issue with the exterior window trim being different. The 1.8 cars have a black trim, while the 2.8 cars are chrome. I don't know if the window trim can be removed without destroying/bending it.

Thank you for the tip. Maybe I will black out all the chrome trim(I hate the chrome anyway) with some Plasti-dip. We already did the grille and all the lower inserts and took out the amber lenses on the headlights. I have to say it has been fun doing these small, cheap on the wallet cosmetic mods.

My understanding is that the window trim is next to impossible to change. IIRC, it is riveted in place and requires breaking/removing the rear window triangles to get it off.

Vinyl wrap or plasti dip is the way to go.

99 and 2000 door handles will be different, flat vs rounded. (I may be wrong about the door handles, I forget if it was 99 or 2000 when they switched.) And I believe the facelift A4s have the washer nozzles located at the base of the windshield instead of on the hood.

I think you're better off sticking with 99 parts..

The difference between the doors will be the door guard that runs down the middle of the door. So you might want to look at those before you buy the door.

Could you Tell me if this sounds right...
I was told mine is the "1999.5" Not sure if there is a diffence between the 2. But The nozzles are at the base of the windshield and the doors handles are rounded.

There you go. 99.5s have the updated components. Sorry, I assumed you were a regular 99. There are still some differences between the 99.5s and 2000s though I can't name them offhand.

Since thats the case you have a few less problems to worry about.

I had thought the guy was full of it when he told me it was a 99.5. but I have noticed changes when I took a trip to the salvage yard. Thanks to everyone for the info...I'm sure to be a regular on here.

yea there is quite a bit of difference. If you go to the dealer's parts counter and tell them it's a 99, they will always ask if its "early or late".
