Default instrument cluster removal/ reprogram???

So I think the cluster is going out. I was wondering if I replace the cluster does it have to be programmed to the car or can I just plug in the used one. Yes Im gonna get a used one from a junkyard or off ebay. Im not worried about the mileage being lost and if that's the only issue then Im ok with that, I just dont want random lights to flash and the gauges not to work.

Replaced my center LCD and solved intermittent fuel gauge issue.

Quick turnaround, but even so, your car will drive just fine without the cluster while you wait.
