Installed S4 Springs and Struts..Not lower???
So I had a broken rear spring in my 1996 A4 Quattro so i got a set of 2000 S4 struts with springs, and installed them yesterday...Did the rear first and set car down and looked great, lowered it about 1.5 inches in rear, the did front and it didnt lower the front of the vehical at all, now it looks kind of stupid wit the front at stock hieght and rear looking good with tire tucked a little. So What do I do?, Why didnt it lower it at all, it looks ro me it may even be 1/4 inch higher from my measurements... It rides so much better with the stiff shocks but im bummed about the looks..Should i just put some H&R Springs on the s4 struts as there plenty strong enough to handke the spring rate of sport lowering springs I asume. I anyone has any measurments of what the ground to fender spec is i'd be interested to see what mine is compared to a real S4..i have 225/55-17. thanks

the S4 is heavier so they gave it heavier springs to take the weight. when you put those on an A4 it physicly fits, but doesnt work right. both the springs are thicker, and the shocks are stiffer. you dont have an S4 so you shouldnt be using S4 parts.

The rear of a S4 weighs about the same as an A4 and you would get a little drop in the rear as the S4 springs are lower but as stated the front of the S4 weighs more and your 1.8t is way lighter than an S4 so it will jack your car up not lower it.
If I was you I would swap out the springs for some H&R Race springs and keep the shocks has they will acted like upgraded shocks.
I run RS4 shocks with H&R race springs and it rides sweet but I’m surprised you did not ask first or even search as this subject been covered loads of time.

I did post and i was under the impression that s4 spring would work thats why i went with it...i assumed that the stock 2.8 was equal or a bit heavier than an s4 engine.....So now im stuck wit the s4 shocks, So looks like ill just order H&R Sport Springs, the webside said that its 1.25 front 1.0 rear is that from stock non-sport or from sport height. I only have non- sport sus that was in my car. Thanks for all you help, and i did search alot and everyone said that s4 would work so i tried to research as best as i could...I do understand why s4's dont work as their motors are heavier...wish i knew that soon!!

Here is what it look like..now with s4 springs and struts. I really dont want to go much lower in the back as i do alot of driving, so i fiquare the sport h&R spring would work good for me right???? They are the least drop compared to out brand from what i see..

Mate that not going to settle that much and they are already bedded in springs.
H&R sport springs will sit around the height of Sport suspension A4's may slightly lower the H&R race is about the perfect height for our cars I would say.
Stock Sport suspension
Sport shocks with H&R Race springs
With the RS4 shocks it sits the same just a way better feel on the road.
