Ignition Module

Ignition Module
My car was missfiring, I replaced the ignition module and the misfiring stop. But the check engine light is still on, how do I get rid of it?
I ordered a "Bosch" ignition module, but the car parts store sent me an "Huco" brand, it fits the wiring harness but it has a different shape. Will this affect my car's performance? I have an AEB engine 1.8T 1998 FWD

if you paid $180 for a Bosch unit and they sent you a $100 Huco unit you need to contact them and either get your $80 back or have ECS fix it and send you the correct one. the only difference being Bosch is the OEM manufacturer so its guaranteed to be of OEM quality. Huco is probably the same thing, but probably made in mexico and you cant be 100% sure its made to the exact same specifications as OEM. the physical shape of the outside doesnt matter.

sometimes it will just turn off if you drive it enough but in order to turn it off right away you either need an obdII reader or vag-com. we discussed this last week and most places will not delete the code, i.e. auto zone or oreilly's. either try to find a buddy that has one or unhook your negative lead from the battery for a few minutes, but in most cases you will need your radio code.

Thank you sir
I will try the removing the battery post.
When I went to Autozone to get a borrow code reader (wanted to ID what was causing the missfire), they told me that in California they stopped lending this out because car shops had complain about it. Is any one familiar with this?

I'll bet that the car shops have a problem with people clearing the codes then bringing their car in so the shop has a hard(er) time diagnosing the problem.
As far as the CEL clearing, it took mine about a week to clear itself after I resolved the underlying problem. I think the length of time before it clears depends on what the problem was.

thats called the free market economy. if car shops are selling diagnostic readings for $50 and i come in and offer it for free, thats really too bad for them. they can complain as much as they want but i can still do it.
