Default I Thought Quattro Was Always On.....

I was drifting/sliding the other day, and ended up in some guys front lawn, I tried reversing but only my front tires were engaging so I was getting pissed. All four tires would only engage if my rpms were high enough at about 3500, I'm guessing. Whats up with that?

maybe theres something wrong, firstly your EDL wasent working since that would have locked all for wheels. secondly what kind tires did you have, if your edl wasent working than that means your abs sensors are out of wack, BTW did you eventaully get out.

I'm not sure of what kind of tires I have, but they have a lot of tread left still on them, the previous owner had them replaced before he sold the car. And I had to partly dig my way out to get out. Maybe my back wheels weren't spinning because they had traction on the ground and we're pulling while the front ones where just spinning on the snow, that would make it look like only my front ones were working. And lastly what is EDL?

if your wheels were off the ground there would be zero friction on them therefore the torsen would send no power to them. or at least thats how i understand it

All of my wheels were on the ground, my back wheels were in the street on pavement with no snow. There wasn't snow because I was spinning the tires trying to get unstuck and as a result, i cleared all the snow under my rear tires. My front tires were stuck in a snowbank completely surrounded by snow in some guys front lawn.

You have to understand how a torsen diff works, look it up on wikipedia. There is nothing wrong with your quattro system.
Its 100% mechanical, it can't fail.
