it might be the ECT bracket thingy. i keep forgetting the name but it's the part that hold the ECT. it's known to go bad on 1.8t engines. plus it's behind the head thus why you have all the wet looking stuff on the rear part of the underbelly pan

Decline means do not accept. There is no radiator cap to hook up a pressure tester though. I wouldn't expect a firestone tech to know this, however i would expect an audi owner to know this..... A pressure test wouldn't very easily reveal a slllloooowww leak anyways. It's much easier to look out for cooked pink crusty stuff wherever a coolant hose/flange is attatched. Reach back behind/under the coolant flange (where the ects is) and wipe your finger around it and then look for the pink crust. Then, smell your fingers while sporting a guilty grin just for the hell of it.

Default firestone

firestone techs work on alot more cars than most people, they occasionally make mistakes (who doesnt), since youve paid for the work, the diagnosis is guaranteed, so if they are wrong, you get another pressure test free. Your telling me a guy who has 35 years of wrenching experience doesnt know what hes doing? he could swap that engine in and out before you realize where the leak is coming from. Firestone techs are equipped with the proper equipment to properly diagnose your car. But since you own the car you should know everything right?

i have a coolant pressure test kit, 75 bucks from harbor freight. not all pressure tests are done on a radiator cap. gm 3.1, 3.4 liters have the same style coolant reservoir, as do saturn 1.9 liters, volvos, mercedes, bmws, and probably many others that i cant think of at the time. the kit has adaptors that screw into the reservoir. a firestone tech also knows how to find small leaks, because they know how all cooling systems work, and have to deal with finding small leaks almost everyday. But, again i wouldnt expect an audi owner to know that.
