software piracy is stealing, illegal, immoral, hurts the economy etc. Soon corporations like Ross-Tech will have to stop providing their software for "free" and code further safeguards into their product making it more difficult for legitimate users, like me, to use.

Feel free to disagree. This is just my .02

Since you're apparently unwilling to cure your own ignorance, I will spell it out for you with an excerpt from U.S.C. Title 17, Chapter 12:

(2) No person shall manufacture, import, offer to the public, provide, or otherwise traffic in any technology, product, service, device, component, or part thereof, that —

(A) is primarily designed or produced for the purpose of circumventing a technological measure that effectively controls access to a work protected under this title
In other words, offering to provide a "Crack" is ILLEGAL, and posting such an offer violates the Terms of Service of this forum which explicitly prohibit "Posting, distributing, transmitting or promoting illegal content".

I understood it. I edited the post. When did I send someone the software?

The picture of your license plate which previously appeared in this thread is not hosted on a server under my control, nor did I cause it it be hosted where it is. Hence I cannot delete it. For the record, this is the link I used with img tags:

It is not necessary to send someone the software to run afoul of the law. As should be obvious from the except I posted, providing, or even offering to provide a "Crack" is itself a violation of Federal law.

On newer cars which require a direct CAN connection for diagnostics, that is correct; those require the full version of VCDS and one of our proprietary interfaces.

However, for older cars like the B5 and even the B6 which do diagnostics via K-Line, we have VCDS-Lite, which is specifically made to work with generic 3rd party interfaces. The free version of VCDS-Lite is of course somewhat limited in functionality, but a license which gets you complete functionality on those cars costs $99. Then, if you ever trade your old car in on a new one, we'll give you full credit for what you've already spent with us towards the purchase of a system which works with your newer car.

I think everyone is mostly right, pirated software sux UWE, and I understand YOUR software is your business and livelyhood. But it's gonna happen, whether it's FREE or not. I do HOPE, you go after the torrent sites, yes, the pirate torrent sites, that make you PAY to be a member and then you're paying to download HACKED software...now THAT is totally illegal, but being done every day. I'm not a member of those sites, but have run across them...

Ross-tech gives you trade in value, credit, if you upgrade software, gives you credit if you change cars, who does that these days....????

Wenn das Wort "wenn" nicht wär, wär mein Vater Millionär.....

Stealing isn't cool. I've had my VAG com for a few years and have been very happy with it, thanks Rosstech!
