the gasket for the lower oil pan is metal, you shouldnt use any silicone sealant, also make sure oyu have the tourque right, while doing my gasket i snaped one of bolts. the tranny gasket is straight forward too, as for surprises remember even after draining all the oil your still gonna have alot of it dripping while the pan is off, also all that oil makes things hard to grab. also be careful when taking off the oil pick up tube since it also holds on the gasket. your gonna have to malet that off too so make sure you dont have your used oil under the car because it will drop in and splash everywhere.

stealership told me my lower oil pan uses the audi silicon sealant instead of a gasket because there's been alot of problems with the gasket. i can't imagine it being different for the 12v but it could be. i also couldn't find a gasket anywhere for my car lol. i'm coming up on 8 months with the silicone and no leaks watsoever.
