Hi guys..
I need some help on installing
1.A new oil pan gasket
2. Replacing my Transmission Fluid. (how much fluid do I need? Do I need to change the filter?gasket?etc..)
3. And replacing my temperature sensor and where it is?

Can somebody help me out on this. I'm trying to cut the cost from going to the mechanic, besides I kinda like working on cars though I dont really know much about fixing cars. I just learn as it goes. hehe.
If somebody could give me a step by step instruction and what kinda tools I need, what are the do's and dont's, I would really2 appreciate it.

i beleive thedealer needs to do the transmission fluid as it's some complicated process that if you flush and drain like you would on a chevy the tranny screws up - i wouldget someone else's advice also - i'm not a tech

 

well firstly do you have an auto or manual. the auto you need to take it to a shop since theres a special way of changing the fluid.if manual theres a diy on audidiy.com, you will need a special tool to open the drain plug and another 17mm hex tool to open the fill plug , it take about 3 quarts. as for the lower oil pan gasket you will need to loosen the front sway bar, 4 bolts, then there about 30 bolts which are 6mm, after that you need to hit it with a malat to break the seal, do make sure you drained the oil before doing this. after that there are about 10 more 6mm bolts on the oil pick up tube, once that is off you can scrape off the metal gasket. its messy, take patience, it took me about 2 hours on the same car.lastly the oil sensor i have not changed but since oyu have a 12v you can find info on that at 12v.org

How hard is it to do the oil pan gasket myself? or is it just the matter of uncrewing the bolts?
I prblably going to get a new gasket and do I need to re-seal it with the silicone thing, if i do, do I need to use a specific kind?

wow they even give the direction right there, if you confident engouh go for it, i had a bad experience filling a honda auto tranny but audi looks pretty straight forward, just remember in the auto tranny it needs to be perfectly level and the fluid need to be pretty much coming out of the fill plug. not properly filling it will cause the tranny to slip and might cause damage, just keep thins in mind when doing this, BTW any reason for all these repairs/maintence.

 

well, my oil pan gasket is leaking.

and my trans pan is also slowly leaking. With that said, I think Im just gonna take my car in for this trans stuff.
How about the oil pan gasket, they try to charge me 250 bucks to get it replaced. It's not gonna be that hard to do it yourself right?
and how baout the silicone sealer. Does it have to be special from the dealer or can i just get any type?

 

oil pan is easy, take out the 4 bolts that hold the clamp for the bar that is right behind the oil pan, then take all the botls of the oil pan, get a tube of the audi silicon gasket maker thingy then jsut replace. buff out the edge of the new oil pan a bit so the silicon stays better. also check if the screen loking thing you see when you take the oil pan off is dirty, if so clean it as best you can.

 

ok, so I should not be expecting any surprises when I take off the gasket right? hehe. any torque specification? for both sway bar and pan?

 

I just called the dealer, they said for a 1996 a4, you only use the gasket, not gasket and the silicone thing.. help please.. is this correct?

 

Whats the gasket made out of anyway? is it out of steel or rubbery material? sory for the dumb question
