how to properly remove the oil pan
hey guys im attempting to fix my a4 and i need to check the pick up tube for sludge. seems that the sub frame is holding it up. is there any possible way i can do this while its on the ground?

his other thread says a 01 1.8. easiest way is to remove sub frame. it isnt actually touching the pan, but there isnt enough clearence to allow it to be removed with it in. unless.... you take the radiator support off and take the nuts off the motor and tranny mounts and jack up the front of the engine i dont know which way is quicker but with removing the front you gotta drain the coolant. and not sure if you know this or not but there is no pan gasket for our motors. just use rtv. and be liberal. you dont wanna take it off again due to a leak

you should post a thread about it. someone on the forum will be more then happy to assist you with your car.
i have read alot about jacking the motor up and then cleaning the pick up tube or poking a hole in it. from what i have seen online the tube itself is very small no wonder the damn thing cloggs. i also read if it clogs i might as well replace the oil pump too?

no need to replace the pump. modern oil pumps last a very long time. since they are so vital to the motor, people figured those out a long time ago, plus they are very simple. the pickup tube isnt that small. and its not the tube itself the plugs, but rather the screen, which isnt very large. about the size of a quarter or a little bigger
