How do I tell which suspension joint is bad?
Good Morning, All:
Ah yes, the sound of clunking in the front suspension. It's a beautiful noise, isn't it? The car: 99 A4 2.8, box stock. My dilemma, however, is that I don't know how to track down which joint is the problem child. I realize I could just get a kit and replace all of the suspension arms, but I'd prefer just to replace the one that's worn out. Is there some sort of trick to finding who is the worn one? The usual "check the rubber boots" isn't working, as they all look fine. This is the first car I've owned with multilinked suspension; tracking down the problem on a MacPherson strut is kinda easy, as there really is only two joints. Having 5 to pick from makes it a little harder!
Any/all suggestions are welcome.
Thanks!
