High mileage b5, worth chipping?
I have a 2001 a4 1.8t (standard tranny) with low six digit milage. Iam interested in doing the apr stage one chip upgrade. I was curious if its worth it and if so what are the main components that will recieve the most stress? How long will these parts last after the chip upgrade? should i consider renewing any parts prior to this upgrade? or should i worry about anything breaking shortly after? The car runs extremely good for the amount of milage it has. I have no plans of selling the car and am planning on replacing anything that goes with new or close to new parts. This is my first euro project car but also my daily driver. I do not baby the car, I drive the car like an audi should be driven....fast. Please take that into consideration. Thank you.

My 99 has 157K and was just recently chipped after all the usual basics were taken care of and it runs BETTER today than it did off the showroom floor 11 years ago! It currently gets about 1500 miles a month of pressure.
Once your chipped, you might not need to drive it so hard as it will perform like a different car!
Just Do It, you will enjoy it!!

DV is located on the passenger side just behind the radiator (under turbo). Do a search and know what the valve looks like then you should find it. It can be seen from under the hood but easier accessed from under the car.

is it quattro or fwd?? and u say driven like its meant to be drive "fast"... does that mean u live your life a quarter mile at a time and race everyone u see with an exhaust? or u just like to get from point a to b faster than most people?

I chipped my 2.8 at about 150,000 miles give or take and while yes, it has a lot less components to be stressed by the extra power, as I'm about to roll 186k I have yet to have any problems related to the chip so as Devil has said here, you'll be fine, especially if you have no present CELs (specifically things for cats/O2 sensors or other various sensors) and do what others have said and upgrade the diverter valve. And on that note, make sure not to confuse diverter with blow off valve, as these cars run a closed circulation for air flow; getting a BOV will throw off your MAF readings and cause all kinds of problems for you.

I vote yes... the APR tune is designed to work within safe limits of the capabilities on the car. As long as you're up on maintenance, get a tune, and a new DV, and you're good to go. Hands down the best mod you will ever get...
