Default Hi, coil pack misfire issues, help...

First off, Hello, first post as a new member!

Car is 2001 A4 Quattro 2.8L.

Here is the issue: Starting with a new coil pack, it drives fine for a bit, then it will throw a code of misfire, the it will degrade into a shudder. No doubt dead cylinders and general crappy running makes its a PITA to think about driving.

Then warranty cycle repeats it's self...

Addressing this issue on my own, I've replaced:

* coolant temperature sensor (the one that always goes out)
* spark plugs
* coil pack several times

Wire set looks good, but I'm going to replace it anyway, as looks can be deceiving.

If anyone knows what else could be wrong, I appreciate the hand.

Thanks in advance!

Multiple misfires are usually the result of a lean fuel mixture. You could check the fuel pressure with a gauge, and make sure the fuel filter is not clogged. Also check for active and stored trouble codes.

Yep, codes are the key. No ICM in a 30v V6. Cleaning the MAF may help too, depending on what codes you get.

Thanks for all your replies, found out the fuel filter hasn't ever been changed, and cleaned MAF. Also was running low octane, after research found out compression is 10:3:1 on 87..... That would do it.

Might hit it with something to clean the carbon out from the low grade stuff, problem solved! Runs great!

Thanks again!

Seafoam in the gas tank should clean it up.
