Hesitation fixed
To those who may be experiencing throttle jumping and/or slight hesitation when first accelerating away from a stop, let me be another voice suggesting that cleaning the throttle body is a maintenance item worth doing.

From the first test drive of the A4 I bought a couple of weeks ago, engine response was hesitant/jumpy from zero to ~5mph, under light to moderate throttle. It was next to impossible to smoothly take off, and was the sort of thing that tends to overshadow the quality feel of an otherwise tight, refined car.
After cleaning the throttle body, all is now as it should be. Car comes off the line nice and smooth. Took perhaps an hour, cost $4.50 (between the can of carb cleaner and the gasket).
Kudos to chocalotstarfish for the nice write-up.
