Should I go ahead and replace the plug / coilpacks?

If you purchased a generic cable then you can only use VCDS Lite unless you choose to register the cable for $100. I'd recommend looking for a legit VAGCOM cable so you don't have to deal with registration. I believe there is one for sale on AZ right now.

So what codes are you getting? Only P0300? There is almost always a cylinder specific code associated with it.

P0300 (random/multiple cylinder misfire detected)
P0301 Cylinder 1 misfire
P0302 Cylinder 2 misfire

Last night I was getting P0300 along with misfires on Cylinder 3 and Cylinder 4. I did not swap the coils.

Yep, sure sounds like your ICM is bad. If you would like to confirm it you could follow the DIY I posted earlier.

Otherwise I'd say get yourself a new ICM. The other option is to eliminate the ICM by switching to Hitachi "E" coils or the FSI coil packs. This will run you $200-300 and require some rewiring.

?No pictures in that thread, googling for other sources. I found one post (and only one?) that said the ATW engine doesn't have an ICM?

Doh. You're right, my mistake. ICMs are only on AEBs. ATWs and AWMs have the updated coils.

The randomness of the misfires makes me hesitant to say it's the coils. Maybe a bad MAF...did you say you were getting lean codes?

Got me all excited for a $30 fix lol

I was before but I haven't since I replaced the below with a $1 cheap home improvement (aftermarket piece comes tomorrow)

(I don't think it's a coolant hose but the part number matches up)

I wonder if the Lucas Gas treatment followed by tank fillup could be causing it?
It's actually idling decent (not great) now but higher RPM's (5k+) are causing misfires and the car still feels... bogged down? Like it's only working at 60%?

I don't mean to interrupt, but don't bother looking on AZ for one, that's the one I bought
