I reset the fault code, and found that he MIL doesn't come back on until I'm in 4th Gear. If it was a fuel issue, I probably wouldnt be able to drive around correct? Hopefully it is just the MAF. How can I test the existing MAF to see if it is still good?

If it happens only wen under certain load, like wot in 4th gear then it's very likely it's a bad maf. That was my symptom and fault along with limp mode when mine went bad. As long as your check valves are rotted out and the hoses to the intake manifold arent cracked then there is no reason not to replace the maf.

Since the the MIL randomly goes on and off. I am going to try to clean the sensor first. If it still fails, I will replace it. After some research, it seems that in some cases the sensor just becomes "dirty" from oiled air filters. I'll let you know what I find after this weekend, when I try cleaning it.

You could still unplug the maf to see if the symptoms dissappear before buying anything.

I unpluged the MAF and the car started shaking, so I replugged the MAF. Then, I took out the MAF and cleaned it. Then, I tried driving the car, and I really felt a power loss. I rescanned the car and on top of the lean code, the computer gave me 3 misfire codes. I pulled out the MAF again, and this time I pulled out the sensor and discovered there was no wire. It was gone! Looked as though it just burned off.

Eventually I installed a new MAF and things seem to be back to normal now.

Thanks for the help!
