Auto tranny is a giant allen bolt. Tripple square is for the manual.

Thanks for all of the input from everyone- I didn't want to have to buy the bentley.

I think it was transmission fluid- it just confused me that it wasn't red. Will autoparts (NAPA, autozone...) stores have the right fluid, or do I need to go to the dealer?

Dealer or www.purems.com or www.ecstuning.com

Purems had the best price w/shipping last time I did my 00.

This is the procedure I followed.

Well, you made a mistake. But remember, cars are cars whether they are built by Fiat or NASA. You should know what an engine oil pan looks like!!!

With that in mind, do you understand that it requires a specific temperature reading from the engine's computer to fill and then re-check the fluid level? Just filling it will cause poor shifting (if it shifts at all) and you could potentially damage the valve body.

Good luck!

dude your not stupid... LOL. I did the same thing when I first got my Audi. And I now do pretty much everything to my car. Gotta start somewhere. I had the shop do it back then, but I have since changed the fluid and filter in my most recent Audi.

You just NEED to get the temp correct when adding fluid. Otherwise you will end up with too little or too much fluid. And that will negatively affect your tranny. Some will say its good enough to wing it by running the engine for a while but thats not a good indicator. The fluid can get hotter that what it needs to be at for a correct fill volume.
