Help..b5 2.8 auto tiptronic transmission problem
Ok...I'm new to the Audi world. Got my son a 1999 Audi a4 about 2 months ago it has 175k miles on it. Last week the tranny started acting strange on first morning take off. I drive off and it seems like it doesn't want to get out of it's own way...about 30 sec's to a minute later it goes fine. If I take off in tip mode this doesn't happen. The original owner said they did an fluid and filter change at 140k not really sure if they did it or not no receipts showing it was done. Any insite into this problem would be appreciated from a, really COOL & CONFUSED Mom.

I pulled a brake switch faulty code about 2 weeks ago when we got the vag cable...cleared and really forgot about it. After alot of digging last night we came across the brake switch as a possible cause of the issue's he is having. New switch on order and will post results.

Filling the transmission with the correct amount of fluid is somewhat complicated. If the PO did it themselves, it is possible that they don't have the correct amount of fluid in it. I had a car that wouldn't shift correctly until it warmed up when it was starting to get low on transmission fluid.

My sons car does that too, I need to add about a quart of fluid to it once a year. It's most noticable when its cold out and the fluid is low, sometimes it takes about 30 seconds of running the car before it will go into gear, others it feels like its slipping for about 100 yards of driving. I made up a filling rig from some tygon tubing, and one of those rubber leg caps you put on the legs of chairs, because I think we knocked the inner cap off the fill tube, and its real hard to tell when its filled the normal way. Drill a hole in the cap, pushed the tubing thru it so it ends up inside the cap and then attach the line to a pump canister with the tranny fluid in it. Take the plug out, jam the cap in the hole and add a quart, then yank the line out and put the plug back in before what you just added pours out. works OK for a top off wouldn't want to use it for a complete fill though.
