Default HELLLPPPP 1998 A4 Quattro... code problems... :(

I just bought a 1998 A4 Quattro automatic.... It has 158k miles on it, belts changed out at 140k miles along with the thermostat...

The previous owner let it sit for a month without starting it, I started it up and drove it home today, where it threw FIVE codes. I have the OBD II reader but am literally 1 hour new into Audi's (usually a scoobaru person)

The codes are as follow (and this is what I've gotten from the forum thus far from research... but I want to be sure in what I'm doing first)

P1857- Throttle valve adaptation? What do you do for that?

P0102- fix is clean the MAF sensor, if re-thrown replace the MAF sensor?

P0151- replace the rear O2 sensor... and clean the MAF sensor...

P0717- speed sensor problem, replace it DIY, where do you find the part?? Will autozone be able to order that?

P1626- ECU can not communicate w/ Auto trans comp (TCU)... drain the fluid, put some AT treatment fluid in it... replace the fuse and relay (what fuse and what relay/where are they located)

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated! As I said I bought this car as of 1 Hour ago and am just hoping I didn't get screwed over.

Thanks a ton!!

To solve alot of your problems you are going to need a program called vag com. It will be very useful to you. Trust me. The website to get this is Ross-Tech: Home

P1857 - Not a throttle body adapation code.. Code is Error signal from ECU which means the ECU has a check engine light on. This code is most likely from your next code

P0102 - MAF signal too low.. First try cleaning then maf, if that doesn't work check to make sure none of the wires to the maf are stripped, exposed, etc. If that doesn't work you will have to get a new/used working maf. If you had vag com you would be able to see what your maf is reading to tell if it is dead or not.

P0151 - O2 sensor bank 2 low voltage. Probably sensor needs to be replaced but you can try cleaning it.

P0717 - Can find sensor from a dealer or try OEM / Performance Parts for Audi, BMW, Mercedes Benz, Mini, Porsche & Volkswagen - ECS Tuning

P1626 - This code usually pops up when the MAF is dead since the TCU gets reading from the MAF. I bet if you replace your MAF this code will go away also

Awesome! thanks a lot for the information. Relieves me a bit knowing it's probably nothing serious and just cleaning/replacing sensors...
