Make sure to clean the old gasket material off on your headers

when your putting the head on, you have to put the flange gasket on the header. while putting the head on you also need to get those exhaust bolts through that flange. (kinda a pain in the ***)

none the less, i got the head on and tourqed...

the sequence is..(i think... i dont have the book in front of me)

6 2 3 8
7 4 1 5

torque the bolts in seq. to 44 ft. lbs

then turn each bolt in seq. 90*

then one final time, turn each bolt in seq. 90*

these bolts are stretch bolts.. mine almost felt like i was stripping them. not really that bad but i def felt the stretch.

an Waa-Lah.. pass head done.

I had been meaning to post in here, but hadn't had time...

It looks like your coolant was either that Dexcool crap (referring to pic of orange coolant), or a mix of Dex and g12 (looks brown in some) Big no-no. If my assumption is correct, and something besides g12 was in there, it is what toasted the HG. As far as I know, you cant reuse the head bolts (they are one time use stretch bolts) so my guess is the head will lift, or you will be in the same boat again soon, so drop the $70 and get some new ones

wow. bro thanks for posting that link.. amazing how different coolants react differently.. i know that G12 will be used on any iron block/aluminum head combo.

ok so quick break...

getting that oil dipstick down in the pan... PAIN IN THE ***! im not even sure if its completely sealed. so i put a lil silicone on there... but im sure its still going to leak. i had to move the alt out of the way, even then, it was a pain.

as for the re-used bolts... fuqk it im mad i didnt buy new ones now. but i dont have money nor time to get new headgaskets.. so FML. Again right.? ill keep tab on the clock to see how long they last.

as for timing..... i think im as straight as possible..

i got the crank at TDC took the cams and lined em up as straight as my sight could will matching the marks on the belt to the marks on the gear. tightened the tensioner and marks moved a slight bit. i think im still good tho.. turned her over and spun like a windmill

any pointers i should know besides replacing vacuum lines?
