Have to replace CV boot need some info.
so has anyone in here replaced a CV boot at home? i need to do mine before i ruin another joint but wanted to get some pointers and also find out what is the size of the main axle bolt. i can see that i will need what is like an allen wrench head on a ratchet connector since its reversed. just need to to know a good way to get it done and what i will need. thanks

hi don't know about where you live but where i am i just get split universal cv boot kits that you can quite literally put round the cv joint and use the provided glue to join it to make a complete boot. It saves a lot of time and effort in disconnecting driveshaft and stripping to get old boot off and new one on.
Hope this maybe helps. Worth looking about for them in the UK, trade price they are around £12 or i guess around $24
takes only 20 mins to strip, fit and pack.

depending on your year, it might just be the socket head type, the non reverse of your deal.
check out www.audidiy.com for more infomration, i believe there to be a write up on it and i just literally did my left front 2 days ago!

Mine was like a 17mm HEX key which were kind of hard to find (it was a different size from the right up, i have a pre '99)... Then once i had it all torn down screwed the bolt back on to pop off the joint (i think the guy in the writeup did that too im not sure though)
But like kb277 mensioned, you can get those split onces that you glue together or w/e i think they are pretty universal ive never used one personally though.

I just got my kit today, mines ready to tear soon so im going to replace it in a couple days. My cars a 98.5 and the axel bolt is a 14mm hex socket, that is also the size of the new bolt thatcame with the kit. The socket is hard to find though, i looked around a few places and had no luck. Luckily my freind has one. Hopes this helps a little, cant giveyouanytips for replacing yet it though since i havent done it yet.
