Question Hard to start after refueling!

My 99 A4Q 1.8t is having troubles when starting after I get gas. It will crank and she won't turn over right away. I have to floor the gas pedal and then it turn over and run rough for 15 seconds b4 returning to normal. This happens every time I refuel, other times she turns over like a champ. Is it the fuel filter, fuel pump or something else. Please help if anyone else is having this problem. I love Audi A4 and this is my 3rd one, 95 A6, 00 A4 2.8 and now A4 1.8t.

More than likely it's your evap purge valve. This is the valve on top of the airbox. It shuts when you shut your engine off and fuel vapors build in the canister. When you start your car it opens allowing the fuel vapor into the engine. Chances are yours is stuck open, essentially flooding the engine after refuel.

You have two options:

One - Try to take the valve apart and clean it.
Two - Replace the Valve http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/de...1&apwidY6ChRWV

It is absolutely the evap purge valve. On the v6 it is under the little plastic cover on the passenger side of the engine bay that pulls straight off (no tools required). It is a little black piece (search for one on a website so you will have an idea what it looks like) that will have a hose going in one side and another hose coming out the other, as well as a sensor connected to it. It is beyond easy to replace. I ended up getting one at a junkyard for $20, who knows how long it will hold up. A new one runs around $85-$95 if I'm not mistaken. That should solve the starting problem after refueling. Willie7182 nailed it by mentioning that the engine gets flooded after refueling if it is stuck open. Good luck

Just a shot in the dark here, make sure you're using 91 octane gas.
