Hard shift when cold
The title pretty much says it all. If I let her warm up for a couple minutes she is fine. Just did the tranny fluid. Didn't get worse after i changed it just stayed the same. Lube express said no metal came out in the fluid and that the magnets where clean. Just wondering if this is a common problem or anything I can do to help my girl out. All opinions are appreciated. THX!!!

Don't know who Lube Express is, but I wonder if they know how to fill that trans? That fluid expands quite a bit as it gets warm, and that might account for the change. You might have been low before the change, and might still be low.

Any reference on this procedure. I'm sure I can find it but would be nice to get pointed in the right direction by someone who knows. Please and thank you. Also can I add fluid to the transmission myself. He said he did a very thorough flush.

I don't see it with a quick check, but you'll find it. ATF has to be between 35C and 45C. Run it through every gear with your foot on the brake and open the fill plug on the bottom of the trans. A little should fall out. If not, you're too low. You need a way to pump ATF up and into the trans, and you will get very messy.

Yea it's very easy to underfill it. My 96 A4 sounded like a staw at the bottom of the glass when the trans was cold. I finally just ignored the proceedure and put more in till it sounded and shifted fine.
