Got Engine Light...comes and goes...got the Code
Hi All
Model 1996 2.8 A4
When I drive my car, the engine light beeps and flashes around 4 times and then it just goes away. This happens roughly 4 to 5 times daily. I also have the airbag light on, however this is an older issue and it has never caused me any problems with the engine light.
I did scan the car and the code is below:
00588 - Airbag Igniter; Driver Side (N95)
32-10 - Resistance too High -
Error occurs Intermittent
However, the error has been on for some time and the engine light never flashed. So I really dont know how I can troubleshoot why the engine light is flashing.
The motor itself runs smooth no problems at all
Please advice

Clear the codes, then read it again if it comes back, to be certain that is the only one.
I would just disconnect the neg. battery cable for a few minutes, connect it back up and see what happens. Beware you may need to re-enter your radio code if you do that, make sure you have it.
If it comes back, well, the airbag igniter has failed, and is throwing the cel you are seeing daily. I dont know how to fix that one, but someone else here might be able to help you.

when the CEL comes on, that means something needs attention. when the cel flashes when something important/dangerous is happening. most often its a misfire. but if your airbags are not functional, this would be classified as dangerous which is why your airbag and CEL go on flashing. that code probably means that the airbags might not function in the event of a crash.
have the airbags ever been deployed/replaced?
