going to make a sub box tonight / tomorrow! any thoughts?
ok well i currently am running this setup (and love it!)
but want to make a box to fill the little cubby on the left side of the trunk.
the sub is only an 8", but definitely has enough umph for my taste, even with the amp only turned up to 3/4 bass boost. so i will definately be sticking with the setup, so dont try to sway me this way
that being said, has anyone ever done this with wood? my dad was a shop teacher so we have a full wood shop in our basement, and i have made nice 'snail shell' type boxes in the past that sounded wonderful (way, WAY too loud though haha i had a 15" mtx 9500 with mtx 1501d amp was a bit overboard....) but just want a simple sealed box like the one its in now, but a different shape (obviously to fit into the side compartment)
anyone with any links that they remember to other posts similar, or even pics of their own stealth setup would be great. i searched and came up with a lot about fiberglass enclosures, but nothing with wood (specifically 1/2" mdf, this is not important though)
oh yeah, i will be attaching the amp to the rear deck lid, so it will be out of the way too!

Well if you are gonna build a box for an 8" woofer just make sure the enclosure is about double the size of the speaker. You also understand the difference between sealed and vented boxes right? I would make a full enclosure in the standard trapezoid shape that would sit upright on either side of the trunk facing the rear of the car.

when I made my sub box long ago I used MDF. Like auditech said, I did the traditional trapezoid shape and it sounded great. The box didn't fill the entire width of the trunk so I measured and cut a panel to put up behind the box. I only lost inches of trunk space, so I was happy.
I am looking to do the same thing you are, but with fiberglass. I want a sub but something that takes up zero trunk space. I'm leaning toward a 6.5" sub. I'm not looking to shake the windows, just a little thump to fill out the cabin speakers. Hopefully I'll tackle that job in the summer.

^^^^ agree. i just re-did my system yesturday. just make a board the size of the carpet so you can mount your sub/amp anywhere you want and have trunk space. I'll post a picture later. i got like half of my trnk space by doing adding the board. [12" W7 JL with 2 amps and 1 ev (real loud voice speaker)]

There are lots of tutorials.
For a subwoofer with such limited Vd (volumetric displacement), sealed is going to be better for bass. Otherwise you'd have to tune it high and use a highpass filter on it to prevent the driver (speaker) from bottoming out. If you're building a box anyway, why not step up to at least a decent 10"?
