Getting my first Audi
Hey guys, Like it sais I'm getting my first Audi A4 it's a 2001 with 91,000 miles. The car is the dark blue with beige interior. It is the quattro with the 1.8t. How do you all like your cars? I wanted to see if I should go ahead and buy it, are there any problems I should look over? The guy is asking $5,900, but I was able to talk him down to $4,500. The clutch does grab high but I seen on the fourm that that is normal? So anyones do you think it's worth it? The car is clean with perfect interior no rips, runs great, shifts smooth. I'm going back tomorrow to finalize the purchase but just asking your opinions and if theres anything I should really look over. Thank you,

Hello Kyle, welcome to AF!
I think $4500 is a fair price as long as the car is in reasonably good condition. You're right about the clutch, the take up point on the stock clutch is quite high, and that doesn't necessarily indicate a problem.
Hopefully you'll see this before you go finalize the purchase, but a few things I'd ask him about before you make it official:
-When was the timing service done last? Not a deal breaker as long as you keep in mind that you'll need to do it and set aside funds accordingly. Don't take "I promise it was done xx,xxx miles ago." for an answer. If he doesn't have receipts with dates or mileage on them to prove it, assume it hasn't been done.
-Has the car been modified at all? Depending on the quality and quantity of the modifications, this can sometimes indicate that the previous owner wasn't exactly nice to the car.
Also, take a look at this B5 buyer's guide for more info:

And take a look at the B5 FAQ sticky/newbie guide, tons of good stuff in there about your car that might answer your questions before you have to post a thread:

Post back up with some pictures when you get home with the car!

Seems like a great deal to me, I don't think prices around here are anything like what they are like wherever most people on this forum live (east coast/mid west) I assume... I looked for months and months and never found a deal anywhere close to this, I still look every week on craigslist and have yet to see a nice 01' with decent mileage for less than $5500-$6000.
If it's in good shape I say go for it.
