Default gear ratio question. .

so ill get to the point quick, is it just me or does the audi a4 1.8t have some short *** 1st and 2nd gear?

when i try to floor it i hit redline (6300rpm)like stupid fast then i gotta jump to 2nd and that 2 goes by stupid fast until 3rd it holds it a little long. i have that pc16+injectors file i know it makes ok torque but dam i cant even hold 1st gear for 2 sec bc am already passing redline same with second gear.

is this normal? or is there something else am missing here?

i see i always thought short gears killed more gas than long but anyways thats intresting i might go to the junk yard then i remember seen 4 2.8L there problem is finding one that is quattro bc i do need the awd if i have awd correct?

also i was thinking of working on the head and internals you know springs so i can rev higher, rods, crank etc i am going big turbo so i was thinking this might be a better idea . what do you think? or should i go look for the tranny?

It isn't really worth it. There aren't much difference between the 2.8 and 1.8 transmission. There was a thread about it on AZ a few weeks ago.

o really? so then i should just high rev build the head and take it from there then? seems like the better option. it the statement about the 2 tranny's been close to the same thing then there is no reason to change it.

The 2.8 is taller through each gear, not by much tho. They both have the same final drive

1.8

3.778:1
2.176:1
1.429:1
1.029:1
0.838:1

2.8

3.500:1
1.944:1
1.300:1
0.943:1
0.789:1

Or just get accustomed to driving it.

Why would you build a "high rev head" if the K04 will likely run out of breath by then?

Because after said head is built. Turbo possibilities are now practically unlimited.

Oh, I didn't see that he was planning on getting a bigger turbocharger.

If you plan on going bigger, I would get rods before getting the head built.

well i am planing on doing it all in one blow head build(springs, retainers, exhaust valves) and rods all at the same time i might even get forge crank while am in there why not but thats a maybe i still think the stock crank can handle good was looking into maybe a better intake manifold i seen some good looking ones and i think the BT set up well benefit better from it than a small turbo. am still making the list, right now i just order exhaust/catback and the test pipe came up to $450 total for that i need the exhaust anyways and the test pipe so that was a must get now.
