Arrow Gas Mileage??

Hey guys -

I have a 2001 Audi A4 2.8 Quattro with Tiptronic. I fill it with 92/93 Premium as we all should and I think that I am getting worse mileage then I should be.

I am getting 198.2 miles per tank, with nearly all of those miles driving in a normal town. Is this normal?? I also made a trip with mostly highway miles a few weeks ago and I got around 270 miles per tank. The weather here has been anywhere from 5 - 40 degrees so it has been cold.
Are these numbers looking normal to you guys?
Do cars get worse gas mileage in the winter?
Is there anything I can do to get better mileage (specifically for our audis)

A friend of mine also claims that if I get a cone filter, which I probably am, I will get better mileage, and I believe him, but do you guys know how much better it really is?

Any input here would be great and if anyone has any other questions about Gas mileage then please post too......this is open for anyone with questions

I am not to informed about gas mileage so help me out here.........

thanks in advance guys

and ALWAYS

ouch. I'm getting close to 400 miles a tank with my 1.8T and its a 15 gallon tank. But yes you do get worse gas mileage in the winter but i'm not really sure why (don't kno much either). What did u get during the warmer months?

no haha my gas door locks when my car is locked - and my car is ALWAYS locked - so I am not worried about it getting siphoned.

My fuel mileage is close to 4 mpg lower in cold weather. I would guess because of the cold start valve and warm up valve being open longer. You might take yours to an Auto Zone to get codes read and see if maybe you don't have an oxygen sensor going bad. Mixed driving mines 24 to 25 in warm weather and 20 to 22 in the cold.

Good Luck...

Well EPA on your car is 18/26 and i would say normal winter would be 15/20 mpg and you're getting 12.5/17. I wouldn't be extremely worried. If u haven't changed your filters and oil in a while i would try that before u go looking for a fuel leak or something lol.

thanks guys....sounds great

and yes, i do need to change my oil soon, also which oil would you recommend?

i am also guessing too that tiptronic is not the way to go if you want good gas mileage but its just too much fun in the snow

yes. it is pretty common to get worse mileage in the winter. the cold just isnt as efficient since the car has to do all that warming up. in my integra, the mpgs went down about 4mpgs in the winter.
havent had my audi long enough to know yet. I just checked it after 300 mostly hiway miles and it got 26 (98 1.8t Manual quattro)
after i checked it i put in a new air filter, hopefully it will get better with that and warmer weather.. it should get around 30mpg shouldnt it?

yes it should get about 27-28 on the highway, but i need to change my oil, replace the filter, and I love ripping my 1st gear in TIP mode so those three are probably why I am struggling on gas. I guess I need to take it easy on the tip.
