I have a b5 1.8t quattro hadn't been running in a while and wouldn't start from key so stupidly and regrettably towed it to clutch start it in 2nd and 3rd on a dirt road however the front wheels have locked up completely, you can crank engine over whilst going through the gears without the clutch and has no effect

 

I asked someone on another forum and they think it would be something with the front differential that may have grenaded and jammed it up. When you towed it, I assume you had all 4 wheels on the ground when pulling?

 

Hey thanks for the reply,yes all four wheels where on the ground as i was trying to clutch start ( bump start) it will roll in backwards ok all fours rotating
but forwards only the back wheels turn the front are locked
