Default Friction when turning steering wheel

2001 a4 1.8T

When I make sharp turns at low speeds (parking garage at work requires this as I go round and round), I feel friction as if there is some kind of rubbing/chafing going on that also causes some noise. Any thoughts re what this is and what I can do about it? Thanks

Check power steering fluid (green cap behind driver headlight). Top off with Audi-specific CH11-S power steering fluid.
