Default It followed my home should I keep it?

I drug a 98 A4 2.8 home yesterday. The girl I bought it off of said she was driving and it "lost power." It had sat for a year and I brought it home. After charging the battery and looking at the timing belt ( it is tight not sloppy, and looks in ok shape, but will be replaced) I plugged in my OBD II tool. Only code that popped up is P1519. Haven't looked it up yet. The engine cranks over, two cylinders fired then nothing. It is LOW on oil. At least the engine rolls over. The BMW I drug home last november was locked up. I'll work more on it after I finish up the existing projects, put my Harley back togother (fried stator), engine swap on a snowblower (I live in the Rockies), and a new tire for the wifes Honda VTX 1300 (might have to trailer to Denver and ride). Welcome.

P1519 refers to the camshaft position actuator circuit I believe.

P1519 = Intake Camshaft Contr., Bank1 Malfunction

You may also want to perform a compression test on this motor to determine if there is more serious damage. When someone says 'it lost power' they really mean 'it swallowed a valve'...

Thanks for the info. It will be a little while before I get into it. I bought it with the suspition (sp)that an engine swap would be necessary. After I get it into the garage, I'll get a better look at the tining belt, then a compression test, then decide the cars fate. This car will not be my daily driver as I have a 2004 A8L when it's to cold to ride the Harley. I think a fix and flip will be in order. Jetsam

After two major spine operations the doctor told me that working with my hands will inprove dexterity and help prevent depression. I asked him to tell my wife that and that "garage projects" will help me and as an added bonus keep me out of her hair. Love that doctor. After doing the beemer last winter I promised that I woulden't tackle an engine project in the winter again, I have a 1975 Honda CB750SS lined up to restore or cafe racer, but the A4 was to cheap to pass up. Oh well hopefully the 750 will be on the road next spring, because the A4 wasn't that difficult. December and january can be really cold in an uninsulated garage high in the rockies. Jetsam

I saw a whole club of really nice CB750s at a bike show (actually a street 2-stroker show), in a local canyon restaurant within the last couple of years. The last street bike I rode is now in my office at work, posed on the carpet for all to admire. It's a pristine '83 Kawasaki KZ550 A4 (!) with not a scratch or speck of rust on it.

Must be nice, I have told my wife that if I ever get a Honda S90 or a CB 77 305 cc superhawk it will be placed on the mantle over the fireplace. I picked up the title for the A4 yesterday. She included reciepts from the work she had done. It included new timing belt and idlers, waterpump, front suspension work tires and battery. It's begining to look like fixing the P1519 code may result in a running car.
