FMIC + P/S Cooler install Done!*updated pics!*
no more smic ...lol
current state of the car :/
the new FMIC
the new p/s cooler
today was just tear down and mock up...I have the piping cut the way I want it, but I have to go to school tomorrow and weld it all up...plus I have to make a couple bracket mounts...
I would have done the p/s cooler tonight, but I am unsure of placement until I get the front mount on....I wanted to put it right behind the rings, but there's no clearence because of the hood latch....
Besides that...it is an ebay intercooler and ebay piping...it'll be fine for the power I am pushing...
the good news is, the intercooler and piping fit behind the bumper to the point where I almost have no bumper trimming to do ....there are basically two grill insert brackets that need a bit of a trim, but I dont have to eliminate any, which I didn't want to do anyways...
the piping is 2" and the intercooler is 27x5.5x2.0"....basically twice the size of the stocker...I plan to have a very insignificant psi drop....
I will hopefully get it all welded up and installed 2moro afternoon/night...I'll keep you guys posted...

it's actually 2.5" thick, but the ID on the inlet/outlet are 2"...I don't personally own a VAG, but a friend of mine lets me use his...I have yet to look up IAT's, but after I get the car back together and running 100% I will definitely be doing some logging....and hopefully get my set-up on a dyno....
The only reason why I went with such a small FMIC is bacause I am not going to do anything else to the motor in the next couple years and I didn't feel like chopping the **** outa my front bumper....
I took the measurements of the stock SMIC and my new front mount is exactly twice the size....which should be more than enough for my lil ko4...

just depends on how dense the core is. If its low density, it needs to be larger to cool the same as a high dense core. Plus it has to be better than stock since it has columbs that hinder flow and cooling space. If it comes back less then 70% efficient, id go with a taller core personally.

yeah, sadly the cold has just rolled in and the warmest it has been getting is mid 60's, I could prolly run the stock fmic for the course of the winter if I wanted to....
the big test is going to be when things start to warm up again...but for now, I am not too worried about it...

Well, I am happy to say that the car is back up and running great!
The only bad news is that I my psi has dropped about 2lbs...
so, this is the fmic and p/s cooler on the car...
here is the bumper on, but not trimmed and fully mounted
here are the pics of the final product!
heres the p/s cooler hiding behind the grill
well, all and all I am very happy with how everything turned out, I kinda wish I had another set of hands, but it came together as expected....
I did just go for a test drive, but it was just long enough to warm up and get into boost, I just wanted to make sure there were no leaks....the car feels great, but it's like 50 degrees outside, so I really dont know anything other than the car is running flawlessly...
I will be able to give you a better review of the set-up after driving it around for a week or so...
well, I have wanted a fmic for two years, and I wish that i woulda done it sooner, it looks awesome and it only cost me $180 for the complete setup (with plenty of extra piping/silicone hose/t-clamps)...
