Default First Impressions of Exhaust...

Finally got my exhaust set up today!! I put on the magnaflow 14816, a Vibrant Ultra Quiet HF Resonator, Vibrant metal core HFCs and 2 turbo spec. vibrant flex pipes, on a 2.5" SS piping system. (Parts below).

I watched the entire install and stand behind the quality of the job done- if you're looking for a good shop in the GTA go to Hot Rodd Scott's!

...Although they asked me repeadetly if I was comfortable with the placement of the muffler, at the time I was and I consented, but now it fells like its out a bit too much. I've looked at many other installs and its consistent with them, but I wanted it to be more discrete, and tucked in. What do you think?

Which brings me to my first point in review of the parts: the tips on the 14816 are way too big for the car imho. They take away from its elegant look. In hindsight, I would have opted for a different look.

As far as sound...I definitely love it!! I didn't want it too loud and it's perfect. It does drone very little around 120km in 5th but its not too bad and that's only when on the gas.
It's definitely not as deep toned as I expected and would have liked, but it doesn't have a ricey note...it is like a mid-toned sporty sound, but not high-pitched or loud at all. Pretty similar to most sound clips on youtube.

I doubt there were any significant performance gains, but I was driving for a few months with a dangling flex pipe and pick up seems a lot smoother and more responsive now- perhaps a placebo effect.

All-in-all, I'm happy but the appearance is my biggest concern. I've flirted with the idea of having the muffler pushed in an inch or so. Also, I think I might have them black out the muffler (-less the tips of course-), particularly the part behind the tips. It'll probably grow on me and will look better when I paint the car (charcoal-ish) and lower it...hopefully. lol.

Oh well....tomorrow night: My first seafoam.

i actually think it doesn't look bad. even if you did set it back another inch or two, it won't matter to much.

yeah, thanks...I guess I'm still used to the old look so it'll take some time to get adjusted to it. It just seemed so prominent and out of place....aggressive. I wanted something subtle and discrete....almost undetectable. Ah well...we'll see....

Yours isn't even that far out. Mine was really far out when they put it on my A4. It would actually hit the ground if i was going from flat to uphill like in a driveway or something if it was too steep. But it sounded sweet!!!!

You can also see how far it stuck out the back. Oh btw, I don't have any res in there. Just the cats then 2.5 inch pipe all the way back to the muffler. It did drone around 65-70 mph though which sucked.

I never did like those tips on that muffler so I went with a 14862 and love them. The shop should have been a bit more careful installing them and centered it better but in person its not very noticeable. I also wanted the tips in farther but again the shop didn't think they could do it much farther in. I wish I had exhaust bending equipment at our shop to do it myself... Here's a clip of mine with stock piping and just the muffler. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wzxJHoISGYw

I still thinks it looks really clean. It doesn't stick out too far at all, man. Its just far enough to get noticed but not so far that it looks obnoxious.
