Default First highway drive, impressions and questions

I had my 01 A4 V6 on the highway for a couple hours for the first time since owning it. It drove pretty smooth. It's fun to drive. I have a couple thoughts/questions though.

It's not particularly quiet. Part of the problem seems to be that at ~80mph, my RPM's are at 3500. Is that normal?

The oil temperature was about 235 degrees. Is that normal? I seem to recall reading some posts and thinking that was high.

I just realized that the steering is telescoping, which is sweet.

The cruise control functions just fine, but the controls for it just suck.

Is there a way to vent air into the car without actually turning on the climate control? (besides using the windows or sun roof of course)?

Hmm - you could run the fan without using the A/C, which is what I do. Just hit the economy button.

I used to think the cruise control controls were really dumb but I've come to not mind them after a few months.

1 - yeah those RPM are about normal. My 99 Quattro 30v is at roughly 3000RPM at 70 and in the mid-3k range around 80.

2 - oil temp seems a little high - based on a conversation yesterday, 190 seems to be more like it. However, your oil temp sender could be malfunctioning too, and giving you a faulty reading.

3 - yep - it helps when you're 6'4" like me.

4 - agreed with the design, but I don't have to be aggravated by it because mine's not working

5 - with everything off, the only thing you can do is hit the ECON button, and let it do its thing. There's not too much full control you can have over the climate control in that regard.

I've only had my A4 for a week and haven't done anything more than about 20 mnutes on the highway. I find it very quiet, smooth and great handling. I find no real discernable interior noise difference between 60, 70 or 80 mph. In factI occasionally drift from 60 up to 70 and 80 without really noticing which could be a source for some speeding tickets ifI don't watch myself more.

I've played with the HVAC controls and foundI don't even need to turn the Econo switch on to have outside air come through the vents.

Telescopic??? I'm going to have to check that out right now. All I thought I had was the tilt function. I ony assumed there was no telescopic function since both front seats are powered.

I haven't even tried to use my cruise control yet. Next long trip will be the first.

My oil temps usually sit around the 190 or lower mark a well.
