Default A few A4 issues - need direction

1999 a4 quatro 1.8t

*Head Lights - sometimes I have to hit the front fenders to get the headlights on...not sure where the ground is for these.

*Indicator lights - SRS, anti-lock & brake flashing plus a message 'INSP'

*An Indicator light that is not in my manual. In the middle of the instrument cluster beside the temp light. Its a big yellow smooth round solid light with parenthasis looking brakets around the light. I thought maybe a tire pressure light but I adjusted them last night and it didn't go off

Lets see, the SRS light is most likely the cinnector under the seat, but the codes need to be scanned. The abs/brake combo means your module has failed, so either live with it or rebuild the module

You need a VAG-COM scan. That will help narrow the major problems down.

I think the "parentheses" light means you have worn brakes (or a failed sensor). That may also explain the "INSP" message. Pull the wheels and check your pads and sensors.

^ +1 The INSP by your odometer is just a light that comes on every certain amount of miles. Its to remind you to do your regular service intervals. If you do your own service like I do you can reset it yourself and change the interval. You'll have to search to find out how though. I think there's a similar message for oil.

Agreed on all of this. Vagcom scan is imperative but even a free scan at Autozone may help. With the headlights, the ground is in the harness bundle attached to the back of the housing (on German cars, brown wires are grounds). Unplug them, clean the connectors, and plug them back in securely. You can always cut the brown wires and ground the lamps directly to the chassis if you suspect they're at fault.

Airbag is usually the bag in the driver's seat. As mentioned above, it gets pulled when the seat is moved too far and opens the connector momentarily. Ziptie it (it's the yellow one under the front of the seat - I have a pic in the photo album on my member page).
