Default Exhaust leak, is it time to upgrade?or just weld?

So I brought the audi to my mechanic to check the exhaust and it is infact leaking. I guess it is pretty rotted so he told me he could just weld it and it would be fine, but should i just upgrade and throw a new one on?if so what is a good one that will no make me broke?any ideas? 1996 2.8

If you are gonna do exhaust for a big performance gain, then no. Itll help out a lil, but thats about it. Its gonna sound better though...What kinds of exhaust systems where you looking at?

The only better sounding exhaust is quieter exhaust.

I really dont know exhaust systems to be honest. I want something that is cheap and gives any performance gain. I just know the one i have is rusted as hell so might as well?just not sure what to get if i do

You might get a slight performance gain if you replace the whole system but it really depends on how bad your current system is to say if replacing it all might be worthwhile. And how long do you want to keep the car?
