Default engine swap advice

hey guys.. i have a 1996 a4 b5 2.6 v6 quattro and have found a really good 2.8 30v engine that i would like to put in mine.. been doing some research andhave found little results.. anyone done this conversion before??
the 2.6 is fine and runs well but after 5mins of driving it gets boring, considering i will be gaining almost 40hp from this new engine it would be ideal, but i know nothings ever easy with audi's. i guess thats why we love them
with this engine im getting, engine with all auxiliaries, ecu, loom, cluster and ignition barrel with key.
i know the immobilisers going to be a problem but thats really all i have.
cheers in advanced guys

Theres no immob in a B5 i dont know where people get that idea.

Why not swap the 1.8? the 30v is slow, why swap slow for slow. The 1.8t isnt that much more involved.

my vagcom begs to differ.. i can access the immobilizer fault codes which stopped mine from running a few days ago..? im assuming there is more work involved converting to turbo with extra pipes, intercooler and so forth. and once chipped the 30v has 209hp which is enough for me.

209 hp in a 3000 pound car. That's weird your from across the pond obviously since you have the 2.6 but no b5 has an IMMOB in the states

yeah, overseas b5's have immobilizers. we didnt get them here until b6's. (good for our group) but as far as the swap goes, youll need the 30v engine with the harness and ecu from a drive by cable car. i think swapping in a dbw engine would be too much hassel but certainly not impossible

Defiantly good for your group.. They ruin everyone's fun :/ the only problem using the harness and ecu from my drive by cable car is I don't have a MAF and the 30v dosnt :/ won't this have an affect? Just want abit more poke and the engine I have sourced is a goo cheap engine.. Me and a friend will be fitting ourselves so no labour charges.. Just the hassle lol.. Am i right in assuming the 30v will bolt straight in to my car and straight on to my gearbox? Cheers for all input so far guys

Everything will bolt up, but you might need random things like power steering/coolant lines. All the electrical stuff will be from the 30v so you'll just have to use whatever it had from the factory.

Any ideas how I can get around the immob problem? And the drive by wire conversion?

To get past the IMMOB your gonna need the skc from the diner car. Since you mentioned it comes with the ignition cylinder cluster and Ecu I actually think if you stick all of those in you can reprogram it. Not 100% sure bu you might not even need to program it having all three of those things. To. Get around the dbw you can swap pedals. The wire vs cable pedals are different

I found a thread about cluster comparability and aparently the clusters don't swap over without wiring changes. And that never ends well :/ will the immob from my car talk to the engine as long as I have the ecu? Because its in a seperate box shouldn't it be easier to code to another ecu?
