Engine running rough then starving
Hi,
I'm the proud owner of a 1999 Audi A4 (B5)facelift 1.8 (99/5). This morning after starting it idles fine but as soon as I touch the throttle is makes a slipping sound and the engine starts to run rough and starves/cuts out within 2 to 3 seconds. mediate restart results in rough idle and engine stop or no start at all. if engine left for say one hour it starts, idle fine but then when throttle up same as above. VCDS-lite gives no fault codes so far.
Could anybody please help me?

The tensioner is oil pressure fed. It is possible that the tensioner is bad & caused the cam timing to go out.

Final diagnose... not good.
No oil pressure so they will have to find where blockage is or if it is the pump. then they think there has been damage done to the engine so they advise me to get a secondhand engine costing me around NZ$2500 aye...
My question now is. It never gave a oil service/warning light or produced a fault in VCDS!!! are they wrong in there conclusion ??
cheers

The first thing that should be checked is the cam bearing for any scoring. If they are scored , stick a fork in it because it's done!
Next if the cam bearings look good , have them remove & clean the oil pan , replace oil pick up tube which is probably clogged , replaced filter , fill engine with the proper 502 00 spec oil & see what happens.
