This weekend I send my car off to the shop. I'll be tearing into the 1.8T to repair some damage caused by oil sludge. The previous owner was not the most mechanically minded guy and was not up to the demands for maintenance that these vehicles place upon an individual.
So here is my proposed course of action.
1. I'll start by putting the front into the "service" position.
2. I will pull the oil pan and the valve cover to see what the true state of the sludge is.
3. I will then "CLEAN" up whatever sludge I can locate.
4. I will inspect the rod and main bearings and journals and if the journals are within specification, I will replace the bearing inserts.
5. Next on the list is the oil pump, pick-up tube, tensioner and chain. These items will be replaced.
6. Timing belt, tensioner and water pump/thermostat had just been replaced (receipt from the dealer who did the work) so these items will receive a quick inspection prior to putting things back together again.
7. I am in hopes that the cam chain tensioner is making a little noise only because of the lack of oil pressure and that with the corrections being made to the bottom end, it will rectify itself after re-assembly.
I am fortunate that this vehicle is an "extra" one, so I won't need to rush through things as I go.

I am not certain but i am going to assume that you are not aware of the current class action law suit that is in effect as we speak, where vw/Audi of america are being dragged into court, over damages suffered by some vw and Audi models, that suffer from the infamous "oil sluge" issue.
You may be covered under the stipulations in the law suit,i suggest you walk into a local Audi stealership and ask them if your Audi is covered under the law suit conditions.

Concerning the Class-Action Suite... I have 120,341 miles on my vehicle. I thought I read in the details that the mileage limit was 120,000, that puts me 341 miles over the limit. Does anybody have information to the contrary?
