Default Engine NOise W/ Video/Clip

Ok guys here is the scoop I have had this 2000 a4 2.8 for about two months and it runs fine but has a horrible chatter/tick whatever you want to call it while in idle and i bring it back to the shop i bought it from maybe 3-4 times already and its fine for a week the the noise is back and i cant stand it!!!!![:@]I love the car and dont want to get rid of it because i wont be able to find anything better or even comparable but i just cant take this and ive heard it could be bad lifters and that could run me anywhere from 600-1200$ and i just dont have the money. it has 150 on the clock but i know it can run for a while and i just got a oil change and tune up but still the same result guys what should i do????

It's too distorted for me to make out any ticking sounds. Or anyway, I can't hear anything strange. If the shop is able to make the problem go away for a week at a time, what have they said is the source of the noise?

Anyway, a lot of weird noises in our engine can be solved by tapping a couple of times on the thing I've circled in the following pics. Give that a shot and see if it makes a difference in whatever noise you're hearing.

Hmmm - to me, it sounds like the tensioner pulley. But as Sineo said, the sound is a bit distorted.

It seemed to get louder as you got closer to that pulley. Take a lookat that pulleyand make sure you don't see any metal shavings anywhere. Could be that the bearing in the pulley is going bad - but idk. Worth a shot.

yeah me and my dad played around and found it wasnt internals (hopefully) but the ticking doesnt go with the rpms and stays pretty much constant so i might just do a tb change and all the goodies so nothing catastrophic happens....
